Axios What’s Next Summit

Congrats to the Axios team for another legendary #WhatsNextSummit featuring conversations with disruptors, predictions on the monumental shifts in technology and impact on society that lies ahead.

Loved the breadth & depth of topics covered while staying true to the brand through the ‘smart brevity’ format and ending conversations on ‘1 fun thing' in a way that helped me retain insights from a solid afternoon of programming!

A few highlights living rent-free in my head until further notice:

⏩️ Lyft's CEO shared his perspective on being in the ‘consumer connections’ business (as opposed to ‘services’ 😉), embodying the mantra ‘customer obsession drives profitable growth’ and getting behind the wheel to connect with customers regularly!

⏩️ Johnson & Johnson x American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) announced they’re anticipating breakthroughs in a rare cancer treatment that can detect symptoms before onset to increase prevention, early detection and survival rates – and can hopefully be replicated for other treatments in the future

⏩️ Senator Klobuchar claimed to be the only person to ride with both Presidents Biden & Trump in a motorcade for 20 minutes, reinforced the need to pass bi-partisan privacy, antitrust & AI legislation, then closed out by quoting a fellow Minnesotan, Bob Dylan, that our democracy is our ‘shelter from the storm’

⏩️ OpenAI's Chief Global Affairs Officer drew stark parallels between the AI race between America and China and an underlying fight for democratic vs. authoritative ideals globally, and how the role America’s interpretation of 'Fair Use' law will greatly enable or hinder competitiveness

⏩️ Representative Paul Ryan provided insight around the economy's volatility and need for predictability amidst tariffs and tax cuts, then called for the Trump administration to capitalize on a post-midterms lame duck presidency to pass bi-partisan legislation that addresses the debt crisis and entitlement reform

⏩️ The CEO of ŌURA shared insights on their partnership with the DoD, launching ‘readiness research’ to better allocate resources based on cognitive readiness scores to increase safety in the US Navy
